North Pole

The next day the Conks were on there own.  Everyone else was busy getting ready for Orin and Becca's open house.  So we first headed to North Pole and went to Santa Clause House.  That is right my kids sat on the real Santa's lap.  They thought it was pretty cool:)  They also saw some of his reindeer, his old sleigh, and got to pick out a new ornament for our Christmas tree.

Playing in Santa's sleigh.

Here is Santa Clause House and a huge Santa statue (you can see my three in the bottom left of the statue pic).

We then had lunch and headed out to the Knotty Shop.  It gets its name from all of the knotty wood it is made with.

Out front they have made all of these animals from the knotty wood.  The kids thought it was pretty cool.

We got some yummy ice cream and Makenna took a nap.

There was a pig, duck, bear, and a giant mosquito.

Chena Lakes

We got home from camping and it was a gorgeous day so we headed to Chena Lakes.  I must have gone to this lake several hundred times growing up.  It was just how I remembered:)

This was Dustin's and mine old canoe that we sold to my mom and dad when we moved to Washington.  We sure have missed it!  But my parents have put it to good use.

The water was cold but that didn't stop my kids from having fun.

I am not sure what is going on in these.  My kids look like cave men:)  Gotta love boys!

Halibut Fishing

We next drove down to Nanilchik to go halibut fishing.  My mom was nice enough to stay on shore with Makenna so the rest of us could go out on the boat.  It turned out to be a beautiful day the water was calm and the weather was good.  I was amazed that no one got sick.

The boys were both so excited to go.  Dustin usually goes fishing all by himself and they get left at home.

Colton had a great time and loved helping real in his fish.

Camdin was a big help and worked very hard with his two fish.

We all ended up with our two halibut.  We ended up shipping our families 69lbs of fish home.  We love halibut!  Yum!

The drive around the coast was beautiful.

We then drove all the way back to Fairbanks.  It was an amazing trip!  Thanks Mom and Dad for renting the RV.  It was a once in a life time trip!

More Camping

Playing by the campfire.

Alaskan fire weed is always amazing.  The kids had fun exploring in it.

Makenna wasn't sure about it:)

Our family walk was nice.  After the long drive it was great to get out and stretch our legs.

The beach had this cool old boat that the kids could play on.  So fun!

Playing at the beach.  The waves occasionally caught us off guard:)

The night before we went fishing it was raining so we got to play inside the RV.  It was so nice having a warm dry place to play.

We took a bus tour into Denali to see animals.  It was an 8 hour buss ride but we saw so many animals and everything was so beautiful.  It was cloudy so we didn't see the top of Mt McKinley but other than that it was a great day.

We all got seats together and we all got to talk and play together.

The pictures don't do the animals justice but here are a couple of good ones that we got.  We saw 4 grizzly bears, 5 caribou, a moose, and several doll sheep.  The top left is of a momma bear and her two cubs, it was cool seeing them play together and eat berries.

This is my favorite of this caribou.

Alaska is beautiful!

The boys all tried on some caribou antlers.

When we were able to get out and play we always had fun.

The boys completed a ranger booklet (activities, questions, and colorings) and became Junior rangers.  The boys loved it!

We went to Alaska the first three weeks of August.  It was so fun going back to Alaska for a fun vacation.  It was our first time going back in the summer since we moved away in 2006.  We stayed so busy doing as many fun activities as we could.  After flying in and staying one night in Fairbanks we got our RV and drove to Denali National Park.  We stayed there 2 nights and saw as much as we could.

This is our first 3 hour drive.  It was so nice having a bathroom and not needing to stop every little bit.  We played lots of card games, talked, read books, and had a Nerf gun fight.  It was fun!

We were setting up our camp sight minutes after arriving in Denali and Colton ran up to me carrying this moose poop.  He proudly said "Mom look what I found!'  I burst out laughing and ran and got the camera.  The first pic is him showing me what he found the second is after he found out what it was:).

We went on a little walk to check out the campground.

We walked down to the river.

It was a great first day of camping in Alaska!
